what if we lived in a magical world where hogwarts is real and pokemon stalk in the tall grass

but the catch is

you are terrible at all of that stuff.

your cool uncle ash gives you a pikachu for your tenth birthday but you forget to feed it a bunch and in its weakened state it is tormented by electro-parasites and grows sickly. stronger pokemon, trained by the bullies at your school, pelt him with rocks as he stumbles a few steps behind you. you wait tearfully outside as a vet puts down your pokemon. you will never be a trainer.

you barely scrape through wizarding school and then flunk out of wizarding community college. you are roughly magical enough to break a egg if someone has weakened that egg for you first. the sorting hat was silent for a long time and then just disinterestedly asked you if hufflepuff would be cool with you. 

your wand is 8 inches long and made with toad slime because the wand store was out of all the cool ingredients that day.

the world is filled with adventure and wonder and you exist only on the periphery of all of that, looking in.
